Structural Engineers Association of California Honors i3 | San Diego

Earlier this summer, the Structural Engineers Association of San Diego honored the i3 project with their Award of Excellence in New Construction.  The project then advanced to the state level of competition within the Structural Engineers Association of California.  We are excited to share that on September 15th, Hope-Amundson’s VP Jim Conley proudly accepted the Award of Merit for Excellence in Structural Engineering for i3 in the category of New Construction at the Association’s annual convention which was in San Diego this year. i3 is a $78.5 million project located in the University Towne Center area.  It consists of three lab/office buildings totaling 310,000sf with an extensive courtyard between the buildings and a multi-level subterranean parking garage.  Hope-Amundson is extremely proud of this project and we congratulate the entire team involved.

The i3 project afforded Hope-Amundson the opportunity to convey the versatility and practicality of concrete construction within a lab/office building.  With its abundance of exposed concrete structural elements, including most slabs, beams and columns, paired with challenging construction constraints, i3 is a benchmark for quality of execution and constructability.

BioMed Realty is the Owner, Perkins + Will was the Architect and McCarthy Building Companies was the General Contractor.
