The Otay Mesa Detention Center is a design-build facility consisting of one story and two story structures totaling 350,000 square feet. The facility includes administration, healthcare, kitchen, dining, recreation and classroom spaces. The two story buildings provide individual cell blocks (sleeping areas) totaling approximately 1,500 beds, a common inmate area and guard / management area.
Designed and constructed with state-of-the-art BIM technology (Revit Modeled), the structural roof system utilizes long span structural steel frame with steel joists and metal roof deck while the foor system is a structural steel frame with concrete on metal deck. The two story housing units are a combination of precast concrete modules and precast concrete walls. The overall building lateral system is intermediate precast concrete shear walls. Designed to American Correction Association standards to meet U.S. Green Building Council LEED Silver Certifcation.
